Our Program
The Idea
Even before COVID-19, mental health issues across all ages, genders and walks of life were on the rise. The pandemic merely accelerated the worsening of a problem that had been brewing for years. The fragmented nature of mental health supports often left those who needed the most help in the worse situations by presenting a convoluted solution to an even more complex problem. We knew there had to be a better way, so we got to work.
The Solution
Vela represents a new dawn in the integrated treatment of mental health concerns. Focusing on a return to function, our program uses a “Medical Home” model that assigns a GP to act as the quarterback for your employee’s mental health journey. By using the full gamut of mental health professionals (GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and others) in a integrated mental health clinic, with shared chart notes and defined roles, we create a unparalleled environment where the employee feels safe, the employer feels heard and the outcomes are without equal.
The Problem
Our clinical team noticed that despite the best efforts of community and public providers there was a large disconnect between between employers, patients, healthcare workers and even between treating healthcare providers themselves. This lack of cohesion and clear communication often created conflicting information, disenfranchised patients and frustration for all stakeholders.
The solution was obvious. Vela Health was born.
The Supports
Vela Health was created to serve two functions. Our primary goal is to provide focused, intense and effective treatment to stabilize patients and provide a roadmap for longterm success. Unlike other programs that limit participation to employees who or either off work, or at work, our program is open to all patients who would benefit from the program.
Secondly, our program recognizes that employers are a valuable stakeholder in the mental wellbeing of their employees. Only through actively engaging the employer can we develop appropriate treatment plan, return to function roadmap and respect the safety critical / decision critical nature of the work. All our clinicians have been trained in the occupational environment and understand the best way to balance the proper cross section of treatment, work and life.
The Next Steps
Only by working together can we solve the issues afflicting our staff, team members and neighbours. Together as a team. Together towards better mental health.
